Moonshine Comfort & Cocktails
About This Spot
Walking into Moonshine Comfort & Cocktails is like sliding into the worn leather booth of a beloved neighborhood haunt—where familiar warmth lingers in the air and every table feels ripe for a shared story. This North Austin spot hums with a lively yet laid-back energy, a place where the pace won’t rush you but will keep you engaged, whether you're settling in for a midday bite or winding down after a busy day.
The atmosphere strikes a careful balance between spirited and inviting, with an undercurrent of southern hospitality that feels genuinely unforced. It’s a venue where the clink of cocktail glasses harmonizes beautifully with the lively chatter around, setting a tone that’s both festive and comfortable. There’s an authenticity here in the way the staff moves—from bartenders who remember your favorite Old Fashioned to servers who happily guide you through the menu with thoughtful recommendations—turning each visit into something personal.
Dining here isn’t about ticking off dishes on a list but sinking into the comforting embrace of thoughtful American classics, served with a modern twist that captures both tradition and creativity. Whether it’s the crispy, golden hush of fried green tomatoes paired with tangy aioli or the tender satisfaction of chicken and waffles, each bite feels like a warm invitation to slow down and savor. Sharing plates invites connection—be it over smoky brisket quesadillas or the delicate balance of smoky, blackened catfish—perfect fuel for lengthier conversations or casual celebrations.
Moonshine’s bar flows with cocktails that carry a subtle Texan spirit, blending sweet tea and bourbon or balancing fresh citrus notes that refresh without overpowering. These drinks coax you to linger longer, whether caught up in a weekend brunch or an evening gathering that stretches into the night.
What truly shapes Moonshine is how it holds space for a varied crowd—regulars comfortable with their favorites and newcomers delighted by surprise, families and friends alike. Here, the generous portions and honest flavors foster an atmosphere of shared comfort, where food and drink become the backdrop to moments both spontaneous and thoughtfully planned.

Amazing food and friendly service! Our waitress Mary was great very informative and attentive also gave great recommendations. The menu had something for everyone and it was reasonably priced with big portions.

Chicken Fried Steak with an egg on top??? No, my friend... with 2 eggs on top - Don't knock it, till you try it. Last time I was here the bartender recommended it with an egg on top... and it was Delicious, thanks Hunter! It looked so good, I immediately grabbed my fork and started eating - forgetting to take a picture haha. So this time I ordered 2 eggs on top and remembered to take a picture for you... You're welcome!

This place is an underrated gem in North Austin and offers delicious food and a festive atmosphere at a reasonable price. It offers class, convenience, and traditional southern food with a modern edge. The Hoss’ hot chicken sandwich is the best fried chicken sandwich that I’ve ever had anywhere and is very reasonable at $16, as it would easily be more than $30 at a different restaurant downtown. I keep coming back for this sandwich and always substitute the fries with the honey sweet potatoes on the side. The fajita salad and the biscuits are also absolutely delicious. We often order the biscuits with our dinner and save the leftovers for breakfast the next day- they are incredibly soft and the peach marmalade is amazing. I would pass on the chicken fried steak and the hanger steak here, but the other options are so good that it outweighs these two. The Sunday brunch is a fantastic way to sample so much of the menu and is the best breakfast by far in North Austin. The beignets, cornflake chicken, and brussel sprouts all were wonderful. Not to mention the parking is convenient here and there rarely is a wait for a booth.

Logan the bartender was absolutely amazing! Very nice, attentive, and made our experience so special. We were chatting about my upcoming birthday, and he went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He let us know about the brunch (which I LOVE!) and even surprised me with a birthday dessert to celebrate my birthday month. Us girlies take our birthday month seriously, and Logan totally got it! Brunch here is to die for, and thanks to Logan’s great service, I’ll definitely be back again and again. Highly recommend asking for him!

We went there for Sundays’ brunch buffet. The food was great, delicious, and with a lot verity. The only thing that I didn’t like was their waffles. Coffee could also have been a little stronger.

The food here is consistently good. Is it amazing?, probably not... However the execution is always on point and consistent. The shrimp for the shrimp and grits was definitely cooked perfectly, it wasn't overcooked and it wasn't undercooked it had the chewiness and sweetness of the shrimp. The catfish and crawfish tasted very good and we definitely enjoyed the roasted romaine lettuce. The drinks here are strong and actually very good so definitely order the different drinks with your dinner. The ambiance at this place gives a level of sophistication with comfort that really lends itself to the area.

We've visited Moonshine for both regular dining and the Sunday brunch buffet, and both experiences were excellent! I highly recommend getting reservations if you plan on doing the brunch; this seems to be the most popular meal they offer! The price for the buffet is definitely worth it in my opinion. It's very affordable and there are so many delicious food options! Plus our kids were half price! As it goes with most buffets, some items taste better than others. But there's so many great comfort foods to choose from, you won't go hungry! Some favorites from our table included the pretzel bread and cheese dip, ham slices, breakfast tacos, chicken & waffles, cinnamon rolls, French toast, French onion soup, skillet potatoes and the baked macaroni! Plus they offer a full table of fresh fruit and desserts! When we came for lunch I had the Hoss' Hot Chicken Sandwich, and it was great! The staff has always been friendly and attentive. We will for sure dine here again!
